James DANIEL (11901) born in Georgia about 1797. Middle initial J. or S. He married Lydia DAVIS, also born in Georgia. Date and place of marriage are unknown. He was in the Monroe County, Alabama census of 1830 through 1860. They had the following children: Unamed male child prior to 1830, Joseph Stephen 1828, John  M. (probably Marcus) 1836, Nancy 1839, James Jr. 1843, Drucilla 1844, and Lydia  Eugenia 1847. James Daniel bought and sold many tracts of land. He was an attorney and in the lumber business in some way. He was also a part time Baptist  minister, conducting numerous marriages in the area. The family resided in  Monroe County until 1866 when they joined the Confederado exodus to Brazil.  They were part of the Hastings Colony that sailed from Mobile on March 25, 1866 on the steamer Margaret.  There was an outbreak of smallpox onboard after sailing. The ship put into Key West, Florida where wife Lydia and daughter Nancy died of the disease. Subsequently, James and probably the remainder of the family made their way on to New York City, intent on continuing on to Brazil.  But James Sr. died there on May 23, 1866.  He is buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn. Eldest son Joseph and daughters Drucilla, Lydia and their families did continue on to Brazil.   They and several allied families became part of the enclave of expatriots that started the town of Americana near Sao Paulo.  They all eventually returned to the United States in the 1870's.  Joseph and Drucilla resettled in Texas, and Lydia ended up in West Virginia.

James Thomas DANIEL (20061) was born in Forsyth, Monroe County, Ga. April 25, 1832. This union produced the following children: James Edward (1858-1930), Harry Holland (1859-1919). Mary Holland Daniel passed away on May 7, 1861 and the childrenwere placed in the care of her mother while James Thomas Daniel served in the Civil War in Company C , 46th  Georgia Infantry (Muscogee Volunteers). James Wesley DANIEL (4063)  b. March 18, 1827, Washington County, GA; d. May 8, 1907, Laurens County GA. Though not proven, family believes his birthplace was Washington County, GA.; James married Mary Elizabeth WATKINS, Sept. 13, 1859,  daughter of Dr. Isaac and Ann WATKINS.  It is believed that his mother was named Mary (an older, Mary DANIEL is listed in the household of James, and later in the household of the person we believe to be James' half-brother, Seaborn JONES).  Researchers of James Wesley DANIEL and also Seaborn JONES of Marie Community, Laurens County, GA have not discovered any other siblings of James or Seaborn, and it is believed that they are the only children of Mary.  It is also believed that Seaborn is the only child of the to-date-unknown Mr. JONES, and that James is the only child of the to-date-unknown Mr. DANIEL.  James Wesley DANIEL and Seaborn JONES movements parallel - both are found in Washington County until the mid-1850's, and then they both moved to Laurens County, GA.  The location of James' land holdings could place early records in Washington, Laurens, and even Wilkinson County.  All three courthouses have burned at various times (some more than once), and reconstructed records are incomplete, undiscovered, or non-existent. John Elin. DANIEL Sr. (79679), b. ca. 1744, d. before Nov 1812, Grainger County, TN, first appeared in Tennessee land records on 4 Jan 1779 when Samuel Smith purchased land on the "North side of Holston River adjoining John Danniel's land," although no record was ever found showing John's purchase of his own land. On the same day, James Daniel acquired 200 acres in the same area. Then on 25 Jan 1779, James Daniel sold "200 acres, including improvements where Daniel lives, tranferred by John Daniel". John, James and Francis Daniel appeared in the Grainger County tax records in 1799. In 1804 and 1805, John Daniel, Sr., John Daniel, Jr., Francis Daniel and Edward Daniel were listed. These records also showed only black polls for John, Sr., so presumably he no longer had to pay poll tax, shich he did have to pay in 1799. About 1798, James Daniel moved from Grainger County to Wayne County, KY. On 15 Aug 1803, James Daniel gave John Daniel of Grainger a Power of Attorney to represent him in the sale of James' land on Holston River. By 1812 when John Elin. Daniel, Sr., died, James had moved to Lincoln County, TN. Initially, Edward Tatum, who married a Martha Daniel, was appointed administrator of John's estate, then James Daniel, by his attorney-in-fact, Jesse Daniel, sued to be named administrator of John's, estate, posting a bond of $100 together with two securities. This was the last known record documenting John Elin. Daniel, Sr., of Grainger County, TN. None of the extant documentation stated John's relationship to any of the other Daniels who lived near him or other people named in land transactions or other court documents. However, some of those documents suggest that Martha Daniel might have been a daughter, and that James Daniel probably was a son of John Elin. Daniel, Sr. James died in Greene County, AL before 5 Nov 1821, leaving an extensive will which named all his children, including four sons, John, Jesse, Nathaniel and William. Robert DANIELL (81294) was b. ca 1592 in East Anglia, England, and d. 6 Jul 1655, in Cambridge, MA. In the winter of 1634/35 the Daniell family consisted of Robert, his wife, Elizabeth Morse Daniell, and two young children, Samuel and Elizabeth, both b. before 1634. Robert's in-laws, along with their son Joseph Morse and Robert’s young daughter, Elizabeth Daniell, sailed from London to Boston aboard the Increase in the Spring of 1635, and then traveled 10 miles to Watertown. The passage of Robert, Elizabeth, Samuel and most likely their infant son, Thomas, was not recorded in any known manifest. The first record documenting Robert Daniell's presence in the Massachusetts Bay Colony occurred when the town's freemen allotted parcels of land to the 120 Townsmen of Watertown on 25 Jul 1636. Robert’s third son, Joseph, was born in 1638. Robert moved to nearby Cambridge in approximately late 1639, after which two additional children were born: second daughter Sarah ca 1640 and third daughter Mary, b. 2 Sep 1642. On 2 Oct 1643, Robert’s wife Elizabeth died at age 37. Robert sold his home in Cambridge in May 1644. Just one year after his wife’s death, Robert's 9-year-old son, Thomas, died in early Nov 1644. At least one line of Robert’s male descendents, through his son Joseph Daniell (1638-1715), continued to reside in the vicinity of Medway, Norfolk County, MA until approximately 1800, after which a 4th great grandson apparently moved the family to nearby Sherborn in Middlesex County during the early 1800s, and prior to 1876 a 6th great grandson and his wife crossed the country to Cherokee County, Iowa. His male descendents continued to reside in Aurelia, Cherokee County, IA until the 1940s, and elsewhere in IA until the 1990s. (Contact)

William DANIELL (9531) born 1661 in Canterbury Kent England. He was probably the son of Nicholas Daniell born c 1633 or of the latter’s father also Nicholas born 1595-1605. There had been a Daniell or Danyell presence in Canterbury and surrounding East Kent from at least 1375 (Robert Danyell) and that presence continues unbroken to the present day. A branch of the Canterbury Daniell’s have claimed descent from the Cheshire Daniell’s but the links are uncertain. William’s descendants were staunch nonconformist protestants and remained so until the nineteenth century. As in many families, some were wealthy landowners while others were far less fortunate. There was migration of some lines to other parts of England from at least the nineteenth century. Some Daniels (the form of the name used by most of our known family members) moved to Australia in the nineteenth century and more followed in the mid 20th century. There was some emigration to the USA in the 20th century but it is not clear whether any earlier movement may have occurred.
